Workshops

1. THE FIRST RELATIONSHIP

Exploring the implications of circumstances around birth imprinting & early attachment

This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in the dynamics of the relationship between mother and baby from conception, through birth and beyond into the first postnatal year, whether from a personal or professional perspective.

AIMS:

  • to raise self-awareness about your own experience of being born and being parented
  • to reflect on how these personal experiences may impact on your role and work as a birth worker, therapist or parent
  • to develop sound listening skills and an attentive attitude to self care

OUTCOMES:

Deepening your understanding of the unconscious processes at work around the time of pregnancy, birth and early parenting.

Enriching your practical and emotional skills as a birth worker (including wannabe or student midwives/doulas) or as a therapist, in terms of what it means to ‘hold a safe space’ for birthing mothers and couples.

Opening your awareness around emotional integrity and self-care as essential components to being effective in the supportive role.

Running time: 6 hours – includes presentations, small group interaction, personal process work, media learning & feedback.

2. COUNSELLING SKILLS FOR BIRTH WORKERS

This workshop is suitable for anyone working in the field of childbirth including doulas, midwives, educators, therapists or anyone thinking of becoming or currently preparing/training to become a doula or midwife. It is not a counselling ‘training’, rather an opportunity to build on and develop the fundamental skills you already have as a birth worker.

AIMS:

  • to review and consolidate listening skills
  • to deepen self awareness of your role when listening and supporting, including boundaries
  • to develop skills in counselling interventions

OUTCOMES:

To build on and develop the fundamental communication and counselling skills you already utilise in your role as a birth worker or student birth worker. To gain confidence in the value of silence as well as minimalist intervention as a means of support. To consolidate  the value of boundaries in the supportive role.

COST:

Waged: £50

Unwaged: £35

Participants will receive a certificate of attendance, and the session can be used for CPD purposes.
